Project information

In this section you will find information about the project including important data and the key benefits of the project.

Key benefits

The Keppel Seghers process is unique in that:

  • the vertical arrangement of the dryers results in a small footprint, minimising the ecological and visual impact;
  • the pellet coating process produces a higher quality product readily able to be handled, which can be transported and stored for long periods of time without product deterioration;
  • biosolids particles grow layer by layer, allowing the pellet to become hard and ensuring complete treatment to consistently achieve a T1 quality product;
  • the one step drying and pelletising process minimises the complexity of plant interfaces, ensuring both energy efficiency and integration of design;
  • high efficiency heat exchange ensures maximum energy efficiency, hence reducing costs and minimising greenhouse gas emissions;
  • it has low electrical consumption for a drying process due to the gravitation aided biosolids movement, hence saving energy and costs;
  • the indirect drying process is inherently safe;
  • the process is also unique due to the low volume of dust and odorous gas generated by the drying process which removes and destroys all odorous compounds; and
  • the drying technology is able to use recycled water from the Black Rock Water Treatment Plant and return that water to the existing plant.
